Ciudad Juárez was founded as El Paso del Norte ("North Pass") in 1659 by Spanish explorers, seeking a route through the southern Rocky Mountains. Because of it's geographical location, Juárez became the most important point of entry for illicit drugs into the United States. New Mexico, Texas and Arizona meet at one point along the border, allowing traffickers access to several interstate highways to distribute their trade. .©Javier Manzano
