A smugglers’ haven in the Sahara (23/38)
AGADEZ, NIGER —
A mother sleeps on the ground of the Agadez bus station along her two sons. Dozens of poor migrants regularly sleep on the streets as they continue their journey north - with police and military checkpoints throughout each country they prefer to travel with little money to prevent these security forces from taking it away from them. Most smugglers are paid in advance through Western Union, a popular money transfer banking system.
