AGADEZ, NIGER —
36-year-old Serges Ngapdjeu of Cameroon was a
construction worker and a carpenter in his native country. He decided to try his luck in Europe by traveling through the Sahara desert in order to reach the ports in Libya that regularly take migrants to Italy.

The convoy he was riding in through the Sahara desert ran into a police check-point outside the city of Arlit in north Niger. He and 8 other migrants from Cameroon were robbed of all their money by the police. He is now hoping to find someone to help him return to Cameroon.
