The Mexico/United States border runs for 1,969 miles (3,141 km), along rugged mountainous terrain, sparsely separated by a fence in populated areas, such as the Tijuana, San Diego border. It is here, where thousands of would-be migrants set up camp, building miles of shanty-towns along the border fence, as they become permanent settlers of this unclaimed turf. Many of them will try to cross, most of them will fail, forcing the flow of immigration to the more remote and dangerous sections along the border. The deserts of Arizona and Texas have become the main corridors for illegally entering the United States, resulting in dozens of deaths each year. ..Tijuana, Mexico. 03/19/04.
