A Free Syria Army soldier (FSA) runs through "no man's land" under a billow of smoke at the Karmel Jabl front on October 31, 2012. Both FSA and civilian casualties mounted during the day as combat resumed after a U.N. - negotiated truce (which was not respected by either side). Regime snipers inflicted heavy casualties on Free Syria Army forces as both sides mounted attacks on each other.
